President: Abi Jordan, Downing
Hi, I’m Abi, a second year NatSci at Downing. I joined CURC last year and competed for the 2nd Team, winning our BUCS league and also the Varsity match against O*ford!
I have been riding for as long as I can remember and have gone from hacking around the common on little lead rein ponies to now competing with British Eventing. I currently own an 8 year old KWPN mare, called Heidi, who is full of character and a lot of fun to ride.
I am really looking forward to this year at CURC. Please do get in touch if you have any questions!
Captain: Georgia Hockenhull, Pembroke
Hi, I’m Georgia and I’m a third year HSPS student at Pembroke. I’ve ridden for the CUET team since freshers and am really excited to be taking over the reins as captain this year. I’m an eventer who really enjoys producing young horses. As well as eventing I’ve done a lot of show jumping, with wins at Hickstead, Royal Windsor & Scope. Riding at Cambridge is a great way to get that horsey fix during term as well as meeting new people and having a lot of fun. During my time in CURC the number of people joining and the standard of riding keeps improving, our aim this year for the team is to qualify for Nationals and obviously smash O*ford at Varsity! If you have any questions or queries feel free to get in touch with me or any members of the committee.
Hilltop (Intermediate and Advanced coordinator): Annabelle Molyneux, St John’s
Hi, I’m Annabelle. I’m a third year Historian at St John’s and will organise the Intermediate and Advanced lessons at Hilltop this year. I started riding when I was five at a riding school and eventually got my own horse. I am currently competing at BE Novice level with plans to compete at higher levels in dressage and show jumping over the coming year.
I have ridden for the team since a fresher and really enjoy lessons at Hilltop. Please get in touch with any questions about the centre and look out for lesson sign ups once you have become a member of the club.
Springhill (Novice and Beginners coordinator): Penny Isitt, Alumna, St.Catherine’s
Hello, I’m Penny, and I represent the beginner and novice riders of the club at Springhill in Dry Drayton.
I have been riding at Springhill for some years so am familiar with the quirks of horses and staff alike. Springhill is a great yard for building skills and confidence, with horses to match every ability and excellent teaching in both flatwork and jumping. I believe that every rider should be able to work their way to a ‘personal best’, irrespective of starting point, ability or age. I started riding in childhood and despite periods of living in cities and not riding, I have always returned to it; once a love of horses is established I believe it is life long, so be prepared!
I am really looking forward to meeting new riders in October and watching the progression of returning riders. Fortunately I live very close to Springhill, so I am a regular visitor to the yard. I will work closely with the managers to make sure that all members have a very enjoyable time developing their riding in a friendly and positive environment.
Please do contact me if you have any queries about riding at Springhill.
Secretary: Vicky Houghton
I’m the Club Secretary for the second year and unlike most of the members of the Riding Club, I work as a member of staff within the University.
This is my third year with the club and I joined as a complete beginner at Springhill. I have been blown away by the friendly and inclusive way the club is run for those of all abilities.
We welcome all those who have an inkling to try out horse riding – from current students, to staff and alumni of the University of Cambridge or Anglia Ruskin University.
Please feel free to contact me with general queries about the club and membership.
Junior Treasurer: Sophia Upton, Anglia Ruskin University
Hi, I’m Sophia and I am a second-year Zoology student at Anglia Ruskin. I started learning to ride when I was 7 years old and have been competing in dressage and show jumping since I was 11. When I moved to the UK in 2016 I had lost my passion for the sport. However, last year I decided to try starting it up again and it was one of the best decision I have made in a long time. The hilltop instructors were very understanding toward my rustiness and I have been able to improve in leaps and bounds thanks to them. If you have ridden before and want to start up again give it a try!
Please get in contact with any financial queries.
Web master: Annabelle Molyneux, St John’s
Please direct any website queries my way.
Social Secretary: Fionn Clarke
Publicity officer: Shruti Sharma
I am excited to serve as the publicity chair of the riding club after spending the past two years riding in Cambridge, having taken part in dressage cuppers last year. Before arriving to Cambridge, UK, I was in Cambridge, MA, and spent most of my life on the Northeast of the USA, though my ancestry is from India. I am studying Physics and, in addition to riding, my hobbies include arts journalism, tennis, and college lacrosse. Email: email@example.com
